Izasak and Bryan’s Cooking Experience

One assignment involved cooking a great meal to present to the class. We decided to cook the most comforting food ever: chicken and waffles! The combination of breakfast and lunch, the number of skills needed, and making the meal with a partner, encouraged us to create this dish. All of this made this experience fun and memorable.

The meal challenged us as we made everything from scratch. Gathering the ingredients created much determination in pushing our skills to the test. Going through the recipe, we did everything well for preparing the food. The brine for the chicken brought such an aroma into the air. As the chicken sat in the brine overnight in the fridge, the chicken tasted better. The simple recipe of the waffle batter created such a smooth and creamy texture. Pouring the thick and creamy batter into the waffle iron, seemed like the finished waffle would make a crispy outside texture and a fluffy inside one. Some issues we encountered contained putting the chicken in the hot vegetable oil which made it not cook thoroughly enough. As well as not letting the waffles cook thoroughly in the waffle iron, and even burning the waffles. However, we ended up fixing the problems and made both components of the dish come out well. After both components finished for this delicious combination, setting up a proper dining experience for the guests seemed fairly easy.

The comfort dish of chicken and waffles meant that a circular plate needed to be used. A circular plate means to enjoy comfort food better; while a more fancy and elegant dish uses a square plate. Setting up the table consisted of using the right placement of cutlery. As well as served with an ice cold tea to drink, because what other types of drinks goes better with chicken and waffles? Then, we got pure maple syrup and put the bottle next to there plates as an option. Next, Bryan’s mother and our friend, Dominic, tried our dish. Both of them poured maple syrup on their chicken and waffles. We sat them down and watched as they got the fork and knife to cut the chicken. We felt nervous as they poke the chicken and waffles smothered in maple syrup, into their mouths. However, they both really liked the meal and preferred to eat it again soon!

Overall, this experience brought our skills to the test. We ended up pulling off this recipe well enough for our guests to enjoy it properly, and for them to eat it again soon. In doing this recipe, besides the making of the meal, both of us enjoyed making it. All-in-all, this assignment made us feel accomplished, we learned more things, and everyone involved enjoyed it in different ways! We prefer you people reading this to make something with a group of friends, or by yourself. No matter what you do, enjoy every aspect that is involved in cooking! Now, go get to cooking!
